The Way to Academic Success

Alex Hutch, student at RMHS

What makes a teacher great? It’s quite simple, really. Enthusiasm and helpfulness are a couple of the key factors to teaching success. Looking back into my past, some of my favorite teachers have been perfect examples of these traits. Mrs. Gleason, my history teacher from last year, always woke me up in the morning with her eagerness to get on with the lesson, to delve into the twists and turns of history. This year, I hope to see the same enthusiasm and eagerness in my history teacher. An easy way to support success for me in History is to be casual and a friend, but still be strict enough to enforce hard work.

I completely agree with John Green in that now is a great time in education and that it’s up to me to use it to the best of my ability. In the US, a country with such an amazing education system, there really is no reason not to take advantage of this gift. We have many colleges, trades to learn, and opportunities going for us. I fully intend to exploit this gift to the best of my ability. On another note, this year I hope to get Bs or better in all my classes, participate and do well in both Winter Track and the Tennis Team again, and to join the Drama Club. I’m going to try as hard as I can in all these things, to make my family proud and open up new doors for myself.
